Magnite vs. Reddit: Which Media Stock Is a Better Buy Going Into 2027?

November 7, 2026 · by TPW Pipeline

As digital advertising shifts away from traditional formats, investors must decide which platforms can best navigate the changing landscape. Choosing between Magnite (MGNI -0.47%) and Reddit (RDDT +1.38%) depends on your preferred growth strategy.

Magnite serves as a vital middleman for publishers looking to sell digital ad space, while Reddit offers a massive community-driven platform for direct engagement. Both companies represent different segments of the modern advertising ecosystem.

The case for Magnite

Magnite operates as the world’s largest independent sell-side advertising company. It provides the technology that helps publishers monetize their content across connected TV, online video, and display formats. The company serves major partners like LG Electronics-owned LG Ad Solutions, and recently partnered with OpenAI to boost ad placements within ChatGPT.

In its latest annual report, filed for its 2025 fiscal year (FY), revenue reached nearly $714.0 million. This represents revenue growth of 6.9% compared to the previous year. Magnite reported net income of $144.6 million for the period, which resulted in a net margin of 20.3%.

As of its December 2025 balance sheet, the debt-to-equity ratio was 0.7x. This metric compares total debt to shareholder equity to show how much a company relies on borrowing. The current ratio, which measures the ability to cover short-term debts with short-term assets, stands at 1.0x. Free cash flow was $165.6 million. Note that stock-based compensation (SBC) represented 32.5% of operating cash flow, which inflates reported cash generation since SBC is a non-cash expense added back in the cash flow statement.

The case for Reddit

Reddit is a prominent name for those investing in social media stocks. It generates most of its revenue from third-party advertising, but it has also expanded into content licensing for training generative artificial intelligence models. The platform reported 130.3 million daily active unique (DAUq) users as of the third quarter of 2026, showing its massive reach.

In its latest annual report, filed for FY 2025, revenue reached $2.2 billion. This reflects significant revenue growth of 69.4% over the prior year. Reddit reported net income of $529.7 million, delivering a net margin of 24.1% as it transitioned into profitability.

As of its December 2025 balance sheet, the company carried a debt-to-equity ratio of zero. Its current ratio was 11.6x, indicating a strong ability to meet short-term obligations. Free cash flow reached $684.2 million for the year. Note that stock-based compensation represented 49.7% of operating cash flow.

Risk profile comparison

Magnite faces significant revenue concentration, with two buyers indirectly contributing about 44% of its total revenue. Its success depends heavily on the growth of the connected TV market and continued access to that inventory. The company also deals with intense competition from Alphabet (GOOGL +0.78%), Amazon (AMZN -0.35%), and Comcast (CMCSA -2.24%). Furthermore, ongoing litigation with Alphabet’s Google regarding anticompetitive practices remains a potential financial risk.

Reddit relies on its ability to maintain user engagement and contributions, which are the primary drivers of its advertising value. The company faces concentration risks, as its top ten advertisers account for roughly 21% of total revenue. Its community-led moderation model can lead to disruptions that may alienate advertisers or users. Additionally, Reddit depends on infrastructure provided by third-party cloud services from Amazon and Alphabet to remain operational.

Valuation comparison

Reddit stock trades at a lower multiple of future earnings estimates, while Magnite appears more attractively priced based on its sales over the past twelve months.

Which stock would I buy for 2027?

Between Magnite and Reddit, I would prioritize investing in Reddit. Both rely on digital advertising to fund their businesses, but Reddit’s consumer-facing community platform gives it the edge.

The company’s 130.3 million DAUq users in Q3 represented strong 12% year-over-year growth, indicating Reddit continues to attract an engaged user base. This makes the social media giant a compelling place for advertisers to spend their budgets. Consequently, the company grew Q3 revenue by a whopping 53% year over year to $895 million.

Reddit stock is also much cheaper based on its forward earnings multiple, and while its sales multiple is a bit higher than Magnite’s, the company’s much faster revenue growth signals that it’s business is still rapidly expanding. Magnite’s Q3 sales of $204.2 million represented an excellent 14% year-over-year increase, but is still much lower than Reddit’s 53%.

The one important downside to note is that Reddit’s reliance on search engines to deliver traffic to its site is at risk with the artificial intelligence boom. Users are increasingly looking to AI when performing searches, bringing a drop to traditional search visits. Reddit is responding by testing a requirement for users to log in when visiting the site, which prevents AI from taking its content.
