KB Financial: 3 Key Takeaways for Long-Term Investors
On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 29, 2026, KB Financial (KB -0.58%) announced cumulative Q3 net profit of 5.79 trillion South Korean won (KRW), up 13.1% year over year. The South Korean financial services group relies on balanced earnings across banking and non-banking units to preserve profitability in volatile capital markets.
Three things management said stand out.
1. Repricing Loan Assets Promises Margin Rebound
Net interest margin, or NIM, which measures the profit spread between interest earned on loans and interest paid on deposits, contracted two basis points in the third quarter due to elevated funding costs. Executive leadership expects loan asset repricing from recent central bank interest rate hikes to restore yield momentum in coming quarters.
However, from Q4, the base rates hikes from July and August will be gradually reflected in the repricing of our loan assets. Therefore, we expect the improvement in asset yields to further expand.

2. Fee Income Foundation Reaches Higher Plateau
Net fee income, which represents earnings generated from customer service fees across banking, brokerage, and asset management units, maintained a steady baseline despite broader equity market slowdowns. Diversifying non-banking income streams gives KB Financial predictable revenue across fluctuating market conditions.
The group’s net fee income has exceeded KRW 1 trillion for four consecutive quarters, demonstrating a solid fee income base that has leveled up.

3. Dividends Increase Alongside Unwavering Shareholder Commitment
The board approved a third-quarter cash distribution of KRW 1,167 per share, representing a 25.5% year-over-year increase. Management remains committed to disciplined capital returns while maintaining a strong common equity tier 1 ratio, or CET1, which measures core regulatory capital strength against risk-weighted assets.
Today, our BOD approved a cash dividend of KRW 1,167 per share, totaling KRW 404.9 billion of cash dividends.

Looking Ahead
Scale expansion and operational cost discipline are driving cost efficiency, and executive leadership isn’t hiding its focus on expanding residual profit after expenses. KB Financial maintains competitive strengths through its dominant retail deposit network, extensive sales channels, and low-cost funding base. Management is prioritizing asset-liability structure alignment and risk-weighted assets management, known as RWA management, to absorb market volatility.
Along with our scale expansion, we are improving cost efficiencies and increasing our residual profit after costs.
— Sang-Rok Na, Group Chief Financial Officer
Disciplined risk management and steady asset growth support an ongoing expansion in shareholder distributions. Management targets a mid-to-long-term return on equity, or ROE, near 13% while protecting core profit across rate cycles.
On the net income side, I think we will be on a continuous path of upward trajectory.
