Investing Made Simple: The One AI Stock I’d Confidently Buy and Hold Right Now

November 6, 2026 · by jessicaharper

Okay besties, let’s talk AI stocks and politics — because yes, they’re officially dating now.

The 2026 midterm elections just threw a little spice into the AI investing conversation. Democrats took control of both chambers of Congress, and lawmakers are already prepping legislation that touches AI safety, electricity costs, and the expansion of data centers across the United States. If you’re holding (or eyeing) AI stocks, that matters — because regulation, energy prices, and where data centers can physically live all affect the bottom line of the companies building this technology.

So the big question floating around right now: if you could buy and hold just ONE artificial intelligence stock through a Democratic Congress, which one would it be?

Here’s my pick: Nvidia.

Let me walk you through why, because this isn’t a “trust me sis” situation — it’s about understanding what actually drives the money in AI.

**Regulation doesn’t scare the company selling the shovels. 💎**

You’ve heard me use this analogy before with my coaching clients: during a gold rush, the people who got rich weren’t the miners — they were the ones selling shovels and jeans. Nvidia is the shovel-seller of the AI boom. Its chips are the infrastructure everything else gets built on.

Now think about what a Democratic Congress is actually likely to do. Legislation around AI safety? That’s aimed at how AI gets deployed — the models, the apps, the consumer-facing stuff. Companies building those applications face more direct regulatory risk. But the hardware layer? The chips that train and run the models regardless of what rules exist? Demand for that doesn’t disappear because Congress writes a framework. If anything, stricter safety rules push companies to invest in more computing power for testing, monitoring, and compliance — and Nvidia sells that computing power.

**Electricity costs and data centers: a real headwind, not a dealbreaker. ⚡**

Here’s the honest part — and I always keep it real with you. Data centers are energy hogs, and lawmakers looking at electricity costs for everyday Americans are going to scrutinize how much power these facilities consume. Expansion could get slower, more expensive, or more geographically limited. That’s a legitimate cost pressure on the whole AI ecosystem.

But here’s the thing: Nvidia is positioned at the profitable end of that squeeze. When energy costs rise and data center real estate gets tighter, the incentive shifts toward efficiency — getting more performance per watt, per square foot. That’s a chip problem, and it’s exactly the kind of problem that pushes customers toward the highest-performance silicon on the market rather than cheaper alternatives. Pressure on the industry can actually concentrate spending toward the strongest player.

This is why I tell my coaching clients: when regulation hits a hot sector, don’t panic-sell the whole theme. Ask which companies have pricing power and irreplaceability, and which ones are one Senate hearing away from a rough quarter.

**What about Microsoft? 🤔**

Microsoft is a phenomenal business, and I’m not here to trash it. But it sits closer to the application and deployment layer of AI — the products, the enterprise tools, the things regulators can directly touch. It’s also a massive, diversified company, which means its stock moves on a lot more than AI: cloud growth, software cycles, antitrust attention. As an AI pure-play through a regulatory-heavy Congress, it’s just not the cleanest bet.

Nvidia, by contrast, is the company everyone else in AI has to buy from. Democrats controlling Congress doesn’t change that. The stock reflected that confidence too — Nvidia traded up about 2.77% while Microsoft slipped 0.99% — the market signaling pretty clearly which company it thinks wears the crown in this political environment.

**Now let’s talk about YOU and your money. 💰**

Here’s what I’d do if I were a beginner staring at headlines like this: don’t let election news bully you into emotional decisions. Elections create headlines; fundamentals create wealth. If you believe AI is a decade-long buildout — and I do — then a couple of years of one party controlling Congress is a chapter, not the whole book.

That said, a few rules I live by:

1. **Never bet money you need soon.** Stocks like Nvidia are volatile. This is money you’re locking away for years, not your emergency fund or your Vegas trip fund.
2. **One hot stock is a position, not a portfolio.** Even if Nvidia is your conviction pick, pair it
