Dover: 3 Key Takeaways for Long-Term Investors

October 30, 2026 · by TPW Pipeline

On its third-quarter 2026 earnings call, held on Oct. 22, 2026, Dover (DOV +1.14%) announced that organic revenue growth accelerated to 7% for the quarter. Strategic investments in specialized markets continue to expand the company’s long-term earnings potential. Expanding order backlogs provide clear operational visibility into product shipments for next year. Three takeaways from management stand out for long-term investors.

1. Secular Growth Markets Now Account for Over 25% of Revenue

Dover has deliberately allocated capital to high-growth industrial niches such as data center liquid cooling and clean energy infrastructure. These specialized applications yield higher margins and help insulate the business from broader economic cycles.

Our secular growth markets now represent over 25% of our total revenue, up from 18% in 2024. Across the top of the slide, we show our expected growth rates in each of these markets this year.

2. Backlog Expansion Provides Unprecedented Revenue Visibility Into 2027

Orders grew across all five operating segments, driving total backlog 35% higher year over year. Customers are booking orders far in advance to secure factory capacity for critical components.

Importantly, our backlog is 35% higher than it was at this point last year and is up sequentially from Q2 with roughly half scheduled to ship in 2027. This gives us a solid foundation heading into next year.
— Richard J. Tobin, President and Chief Executive Officer

3. Factory Ramps and Cost Roll-Offs Point to Margin Expansion

Facility consolidation and line expansion costs in food retail refrigeration created a $40 million headwind year to date within climate and sustainability technologies (Dover’s segment for heating, cooling, and refrigeration equipment). As production rates stabilize and temporary transition costs expire, segment profitability is set to rebound.

As line rates continue to ramp, and as the roll off of fixed costs accelerates in the balance of the year, margins in climate and sustainability technologies are poised to improve meaningfully in 2027.

Looking Ahead

Operational momentum is accelerating into the final quarter of the year, with cash conversion setting up a strong finish.

Free cash flow accelerated in the third quarter consistent with historical trends and we expect a further increase in the fourth quarter, which is historically our highest cash generating quarter.
— Christopher Woenker, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Disciplined pricing, targeted acquisitions, and multiyear capacity expansions in liquid cooling underscore Dover’s structural advantage heading into 2027.

Alongside a constructive demand backdrop and a strong order book, we will benefit from carryover restructuring savings contributions from completed acquisitions, a lower share count, and a roll off of transition costs in food retail.
— Richard J. Tobin, President and Chief Executive Officer
