Foolish Take
Investors should take notice of the revenue trend favoring MercadoLibre. I happen to own stock in both MercadoLibre and Uber, and I see potential and uncertainty for both consumer discretionary stocks.
MercadoLibre operates in the turbulent Latin America region, which has historically brought with it political and economic risks. The stock took a hit on Monday, Oct. 26, following the reelection of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on the previous day. Brazil accounted for over half of MercadoLibre’s revenue in the second quarter of 2026.

Uber is a global leader in ridesharing and global delivery. Although those enterprises are solid, it faces deeper uncertainty as it seeks to become the platform for linking passengers with autonomous vehicles.
Despite worries about its future, Uber’s existing rideshare and delivery businesses grew revenue by around 12%. While that increase suggests that rideshare demand continues to rise, its growth rate has consistently lagged MercadoLibre’s.

Concerns about MercadoLibre are also likely overblown. Even though it is possible MercadoLibre had good reason to feel more confident about the company’s prospects under Flavio Bolsonaro, Lula’s leadership did not stop revenue from increasing by 50% per year during that quarter.
Moreover, MercadoLibre remains the leading e-commerce and fintech company in Latin America. It actually became the leader in both industries by turning Latin America’s challenges into opportunities to serve unbanked customers and improve regional logistics. Those moves have also brought revenue growth so rapid that, over time, it could overtake MercadoLibre’s revenue levels.
