SpaceX went public in June, and Elon Musk became the first confirmed trillionaire in history because of it. That’s the headline. But the number underneath the headline is the actually interesting part — because it’s been swinging wildly.

According to Forbes, Musk’s net worth peaked at $1.45 trillion, dropped below $700 billion, and sat at $983 billion as of Oct. 21. Read those numbers again
