AI Supply Chain in Focus: Aehr Test Systems and Super Micro Trade Higher on Contrasting Business Models

The artificial intelligence buildout continues to lift companies across the hardware supply chain, from semiconductor test equipment makers to server integrators. Two names drawing attention this session are Aehr Test Systems and Super Micro Computer, both of which posted notable gains in Thursday trading.

Aehr Test Systems, a Semiconductor Equipment & Materials player, saw its shares rise 3.76% to $93.49 from a previous close of $90.10, giving the company a market capitalization of roughly $2.6 billion. The Fremont, California-based firm specializes in wafer-level test and burn-in systems, including its FOX-XP and FOX-NP platforms, which stress-test chips before final assembly. Its technology serves customers in electric vehicles, AI infrastructure, and telecommunications across the United States, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

Super Micro Computer, meanwhile, operates at a much larger scale in the Computer Hardware sector. Its stock climbed 4.62% to $39.59, up from a prior close of $37.84, bringing its market cap to approximately $19.8 billion. The company designs modular, open-architecture server and storage systems, including liquid- and air-cooled AI servers used for training and inference workloads in data centers worldwide.

The two firms occupy different tiers of the AI value chain. Aehr supplies the reliability-testing equipment that validates semiconductors before they ship, while Super Micro assembles those chips into full server racks for cloud and enterprise customers. That distinction carries different risk profiles: Aehr’s latest annual report, covering its fiscal year ended May 29, disclosed that five customers accounted for 70% of net sales — a concentration that introduces revenue volatility if any major client adjusts spending.

Super Micro, by contrast, benefits from hyperscale demand for AI-ready infrastructure but faces intense competition in server hardware and exposure to component supply dynamics. Its Scalehorse Investment Holdings preferred shares (SMCIP) also ticked up 4.37% to $66.68, reflecting broad interest in the company across its security classes.

Neither company provides direct exposure identical to the other, and their recent stock moves illustrate how AI enthusiasm is rippling through both niche equipment suppliers and large-scale system builders.

What to watch

  • Aehr’s upcoming quarterly results and any updates on customer diversification following its high customer-concentration fiscal year.
  • Super Micro’s next earnings report, including guidance tied to AI server demand and liquid-cooling adoption.
  • Any new design wins or product announcements from either company related to AI semiconductor testing or data center hardware.
