Lucid Shares Trim Gains as Investors Weigh Details of Bolt Autonomous Fleet Deal

Lucid Group (NASDAQ: LCID) is seeing some early momentum fade after the EV maker revealed a partnership with Estonian rideshare operator Bolt to deploy autonomous vehicles across Europe and the Middle East.

The announcement initially sent shares sharply higher, with the stock climbing nearly 6% in yesterday’s session. But as market participants reviewed the finer points of the agreement, some of that enthusiasm cooled. In Friday trading, Lucid Group shares changed hands at $4.68, up about 1.08% from the prior close of $4.63, valuing the Newark, California-based automaker at roughly $3.17 billion.

The deal calls for Bolt to roll out 25,000 autonomous Lucid electric vehicles across its European and Middle Eastern markets, though neither company has provided a specific timeline for completing that initial phase. The two companies have outlined a longer-term ambition of scaling the fleet to 100,000 vehicles by 2035.

A large commitment with an open-ended timeline

For Lucid, the partnership represents one of its most significant fleet commitments to date. The company, which currently produces the Lucid Air sedan and Lucid Gravity SUV, designs its own powertrains, battery systems, and vehicle software in-house — capabilities that would underpin any autonomous-ready vehicle platform.

The absence of a concrete deployment schedule for the first 25,000 vehicles appears to be the sticking point for some observers, who note that the scale of the commitment could depend heavily on the pace of regulatory approval for autonomous operations in multiple jurisdictions, as well as Lucid’s own production ramp.

Lucid operates in the highly competitive auto manufacturing sector, where it has been working to expand deliveries while managing cash resources. A large-scale fleet order from a rideshare operator could provide meaningful volume, but the realization of that volume appears tied to milestones that remain undefined.

Bolt, for its part, operates rideshare and mobility services across dozens of European and African countries, and has been positioning itself as a regional alternative to larger global platforms.

What to watch

  • Any updated timeline or deployment milestones from Lucid or Bolt regarding the initial 25,000-vehicle rollout.
  • Lucid’s upcoming quarterly earnings report, including production and delivery figures and any commentary on fleet agreements.
  • Regulatory developments affecting autonomous vehicle operation in European and Middle Eastern markets.
