Apple leans further into agentic AI with latest Siri overhaul

Apple has rolled out an update to Siri that the company says moves the assistant closer to operating as a true AI agent — one capable of carrying out multi-step tasks on a user’s behalf rather than simply responding to voice commands. The release underscores how the iPhone maker’s assistant strategy is converging with a broader industry push toward autonomous, task-completing software.

The update arrives as competitors across the technology sector race to reposition their digital assistants and chatbots from conversational tools into agents that can act across apps and services. For Apple, Siri remains one of the most widely distributed voice interfaces in the world, embedded across the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and its wearables and home devices, giving any agentic upgrade immediate scale.

Shares of Apple were trading at $331.34 on the day of the news, down about 0.2% from the prior close of $332.00. The company carries a market capitalization of roughly $4.60 trillion, making it one of the largest companies in the Technology sector, where it is classified under Consumer Electronics.

Analysts have generally viewed Siri’s modernization as a key test of Apple’s broader artificial intelligence strategy. The company’s hardware ecosystem — spanning smartphones, personal computers, tablets, and accessories sold worldwide — provides a natural distribution channel for AI features, but the company has faced questions about the pace at which it has delivered generative AI capabilities relative to rivals in software and cloud services.

The shift toward agents also raises practical considerations around on-device processing, privacy, and app integration. Apple has historically emphasized running AI workloads locally or in tightly controlled environments, an approach that shapes how quickly features like autonomous task execution can reach users across its installed base.

For investors and industry watchers, the Siri update is less a standalone product event than a signal of where the company is heading: embedding AI more deeply into the operating system so the assistant becomes the primary interface for getting things done on Apple devices.

What to watch

  • Apple’s upcoming quarterly earnings report, for commentary on AI feature rollout timelines and device demand.
  • Further announcements on Siri’s agentic capabilities and which apps and services gain integration.
  • Developer response at future Apple software events, which typically preview the next major OS releases.
  • Competing agent announcements from other large technology platforms over the coming quarters.
