Anthropic’s Reported $2 Trillion IPO Plans Put Alphabet and Amazon Stakes in Focus

AI developer Anthropic is reportedly gearing up for one of the largest initial public offerings ever attempted, with a targeted valuation of $2 trillion and as much as $100 billion in proceeds from newly issued shares, according to recent reports. If the company lands anywhere near those figures, the debut would eclipse the previous record set by Space Exploration Technologies in June, which carried a $1.77 trillion valuation and raised $86 billion.

The prospect matters well beyond Anthropic itself. Two of the company’s most prominent corporate backers — Amazon and Alphabet — hold substantial equity stakes in the AI lab, and a listing at or near the reported valuation could translate into a meaningful mark-up of those holdings. Depending on when the offering actually prices, the accounting impact could land in the fourth quarter, making the IPO a potential swing factor in year-end earnings reports for both companies.

For Alphabet, the connection comes as the company’s own valuation sits near a milestone moment. Shares of Alphabet recently traded at $338.46, down 1.3% from the prior close of $342.93, giving the company a market capitalization of roughly $4.14 trillion. In other words, a $2 trillion valuation for Anthropic would place the private AI developer at nearly half the value of its publicly listed backer — a striking illustration of how quickly private AI valuations have climbed.

Amazon’s stake similarly ties its cloud and AI strategy to Anthropic’s trajectory, as the company has been among the most visible strategic investors in the startup. Neither backer has publicly disclosed how it would account for a public listing, and the ultimate size, timing, and pricing of the offering remain unconfirmed. Mega-cap IPOs of this scale have historically shifted between initial targets and final terms, and records of the kind being reported are not guaranteed until the deal formally prices.

The reported offering also arrives amid heightened interest in AI-related public listings, with investors and analysts watching whether private-market valuations for frontier AI companies can be sustained under public-market scrutiny. Anthropic, which develops large language models, has raised successive rounds of private capital in recent years, much of it from strategic technology partners alongside institutional investors.

While the filing process for a listing of this size typically involves an extended regulatory review and a roadshow that can stretch across months, the fall timeline suggested in recent reports would place a debut within the current quarter.

What to watch

  • Confirmation of a confidential or public IPO filing by Anthropic and any disclosed valuation range.
  • Final deal terms, including the number of shares issued and total proceeds, versus the reported $2 trillion target and $100 billion raise.
  • The exact pricing date, which will determine whether gains from revalued stakes appear in Amazon and Alphabet fourth-quarter results.
  • Upcoming quarterly earnings from Alphabet and Amazon, where any Anthropic-related accounting effects would first surface.
