OpenAI has acquired Glass Imaging, a startup specializing in smartphone camera and image-processing technology, for roughly $300 million, according to a report. The deal, if confirmed, would mark a notable push by the artificial intelligence company into hardware-adjacent imaging software.

Glass Imaging was founded by two former Apple engineers who led the team behind Apple’s Portrait Mode, the depth-based camera feature that helped define modern smartphone photography.
