AI Infrastructure Names Slip After Anthropic CEO’s Slowdown Call, While Netflix Sees Intraday Reversal

Shares of companies tied to the artificial intelligence build-out came under pressure Monday following a weekend essay from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei urging the industry to slow the pace at which it develops increasingly capable AI models — a position that OpenAI chief Sam Altman publicly supported.

Chip stocks reflected the souring sentiment. Arm Holdings was the notable underperformer, falling 9.06% to $240.95 from a previous close of $264.955. NVIDIA, the dominant supplier of data center AI accelerators, slipped 0.73% to $223.67, a modest move by comparison for a company with a market capitalization above $5.5 trillion.

Memory maker Micron Technology bucked the trend, however, climbing 6.58% to $1,016.59. Micron, which sells memory and storage products across cloud, data center, mobile, and automotive markets, has been a direct beneficiary of AI-driven demand for high-bandwidth memory.

Streaming giant Netflix saw a volatile session. Shares initially rose roughly 4% on Monday morning, a move some observers attributed to the company’s capital being directed toward content rather than AI silicon, before reversing to trade down 4.84% at $78.25, versus a prior close of $82.23. Netflix, which offers TV series, films, documentaries, games, and live programming worldwide, carries a market capitalization of roughly $310 billion.

Elsewhere in mega-cap tech, Alphabet declined 1.3% to $338.46, weighed down by its exposure across Google Services, Google Cloud, and its Other Bets portfolio.

The debate touched off by Amodei’s essay adds a new layer of uncertainty to a sector that has driven much of the market’s gains, with investors weighing whether the pace of AI model development — and by extension, demand for chips and data center infrastructure — could moderate.
