Broadcom Sees AI Chip Demand Running Ahead of Its $115 Billion 2027 Target

Broadcom CEO Hock Tan signaled that customer appetite for the company’s custom AI processors could push revenue beyond the company’s previously stated 2027 target, telling investors that demand “actually exceeds” the $115 billion AI revenue outlook the company has outlined for that year.

Broadcom has become a significant player in AI silicon through its application-specific integrated circuits, or ASICs. Unlike general-purpose GPUs, these chips are engineered for a single customer’s workloads, allowing large cloud operators and AI developers to tailor silicon to their specific models. That customization has made Broadcom’s chips a sought-after alternative as hyperscalers look to diversify their AI compute supply chains.

Tan’s remarks suggest the $115 billion figure — which Broadcom has framed as a multi-year pipeline of AI revenue commitments — may ultimately prove conservative. The company’s AI exposure centers on custom accelerator programs with major cloud customers, alongside networking components used to move data across large AI clusters.

In trading on Friday, Broadcom shares changed hands at $361.99, up 0.71% from the prior close of $359.43, valuing the company at roughly $1.99 trillion. The chipmaker operates across two segments, Semiconductor Solutions and Infrastructure Software, and its networking connectivity portfolio remains a core part of the infrastructure underpinning data center buildouts.

The executive’s commentary lands amid an industry-wide scramble for AI compute capacity, with semiconductor suppliers of all kinds reporting order books that stretch well into future years. For Broadcom, the question is whether it can convert demand that exceeds its outlook into manufacturing output, given the lead times involved in ramping advanced custom silicon.

What to watch

  • Broadcom’s next earnings report, where management may update or reframe the $115 billion 2027 AI revenue target.
  • Further detail on the company’s custom ASIC pipeline, including new customer commitments from hyperscalers.
  • Updates on production capacity and supply chain readiness for next-generation AI chips.
