Toast Adds a Record 9,500 Restaurants in a Single Quarter

Toast, Inc. (NYSE: TOST) reported its largest-ever quarterly intake of new restaurant locations, adding roughly 9,500 venues to its cloud-based platform. The milestone underscores the company’s expanding footprint in restaurant technology, where its software-as-a-service offerings handle point of sale, payments, and operations for establishments across the United States, Ireland, India, and other international markets.

The platform, which includes its flagship Toast POS system and the Toast IQ suite, aims to replace fragmented, manual restaurant workflows with connected digital tools covering everything from menus to back-office tasks. For independent owners and chains alike, the pitch centers on automation and cost savings — a value proposition that appears to be resonating, judging by the pace of new customer adoption.

Despite the operational momentum, the company’s shares have had a choppy run since their 2021 public debut, and the stock is down close to 9% this year. In trading today, TOST shares changed hands at $33.95, up 0.18% from the previous close of $33.89, valuing the company at roughly $20.18 billion. Toast is classified in the Technology sector, within the Software — Infrastructure industry.

The record location additions highlight a key dynamic for the company: growth in its customer base is driven less by geographic expansion alone and more by penetrating a large, largely untapped base of restaurants still relying on legacy systems. Each new location adds to recurring software and payments revenue, though the company’s profitability trajectory remains a focus for analysts tracking the sector.

The quarter’s results come amid broader investor caution around high-growth software names, a category in which Toast has often been grouped since its IPO. Whether the company can convert rapid customer growth into sustained margin improvement is a recurring question in coverage of the business.

What to watch

  • Upcoming quarterly earnings, including updates on gross payments volume and location count.
  • Guidance for new restaurant additions and international expansion in markets such as Ireland and India.
  • Progress on profitability metrics as the platform scales its recurring revenue base.
