Wealthfront to Move Customers to New Brokerage Account in October as Platform Assets Hit $100 Billion

Robo-advisory platform Wealthfront announced plans to transition client holdings into a newly branded Wealthfront brokerage account beginning in October, a move that comes as the company’s total platform assets reached the $100 billion mark.

The migration, outlined in a recent announcement, will shift customers from their current account structures into a unified brokerage account under the Wealthfront name. The company did not immediately detail whether the change will alter fee schedules or product offerings, saying only that the transition is slated for October.

The milestone in assets underscores the accelerating growth of automated investing platforms, which have attracted younger investors with low fees, tax-loss harvesting features, and self-directed cash management tools. Reaching $100 billion on platform places Wealthfront among the larger independent digital wealth managers competing with established brokerages that have slashed commissions and rolled out fractional-share trading in recent years.

Shares of Wealthfront (WLTH) closed at $9.58, up 4.02% from the prior close of $9.21, giving the company a market capitalization of roughly $1.43 billion.

The planned brokerage transition could streamline Wealthfront’s operations by consolidating accounts onto a single platform, potentially simplifying compliance and customer servicing. Brokerage-account structures also typically allow firms broader flexibility to add investment products over time, something investors and analysts will be watching as the company details the rollout.

Founded as an automated investing service, Wealthfront has expanded beyond its core robo-advisory offering into cash accounts and financial planning tools, part of a broader industry shift toward full-service digital money management. The October transition will test how smoothly the firm can move its growing base of accounts while maintaining customer trust during the change.
