Ark Invest Keeps Adding Crypto-Linked Names, With Circle Internet Group Taking a Leading Weight in ARKK

Cathie Wood’s Ark Invest has been steadily increasing its exposure to publicly traded companies tied to the cryptocurrency economy, with recent purchases concentrated in Circle Internet Group, Coinbase Global, and Robinhood Markets. The buying comes as crypto-linked equities have pulled back, a pattern consistent with the firm’s long-stated approach of adding to positions during periods of price weakness.

As of Sept. 8, Circle Internet Group accounted for roughly 6% of the $6.5 billion ARK Innovation ETF, making it the largest of the three crypto-adjacent holdings. Coinbase Global followed at 4.6%, and Robinhood Markets at 4.3%. Together, the three names represent a meaningful share of the flagship fund’s portfolio, underscoring how prominently digital-asset infrastructure now figures in Ark’s investment strategy.

Circle, which listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker CRCL, operates as a platform, network, and market infrastructure provider for stablecoin and blockchain applications. Its offerings include Arc Blockchain and Developer Infrastructure — an open layer-1 blockchain network designed to support stablecoin-based financial applications. The company sits within the broader financial services sector, specifically capital markets, reflecting its role as a bridge between traditional finance and blockchain-based payment rails.

In Tuesday trading, Circle shares changed hands at $93.00, up 0.64% from a previous close of $92.40. The company’s market capitalization stood at approximately $18.2 billion. The modest daily gain comes amid a stretch in which Ark has been accumulating the stock, suggesting the firm is building its position while shares trade well below levels seen earlier in the year, according to the fund’s disclosed holdings.

The concentration of crypto-linked stocks in a high-profile fund like ARKK draws attention from market watchers for two reasons. First, the ETF’s disclosed daily trades offer a public window into how an influential asset manager is positioning around digital assets and the financial infrastructure that supports them. Second, heavy weighting in a handful of volatile, correlated names means the fund’s performance is increasingly tied to sentiment around cryptocurrency markets and the regulatory environment surrounding stablecoins, exchanges, and retail trading platforms.

Circle’s own trajectory is closely watched because of its stablecoin business, which places it at the center of ongoing policy debates in Washington over how dollar-pegged digital tokens should be regulated. Any movement on stablecoin legislation could have direct implications for the company’s operating environment, independent of broader crypto market swings.

What to watch

  • Ark Invest’s daily trade disclosures, which will show whether the firm continues adding to Circle, Coinbase, and Robinhood positions.
  • Circle’s upcoming quarterly earnings report, including commentary on stablecoin volumes and the Arc blockchain rollout.
  • Progress on U.S. stablecoin legislation, which could shape the regulatory landscape for Circle’s core business.
  • Updates on ARK Innovation ETF weighting thresholds, since large single-name positions can trigger rebalancing.
