Apple Chases Nvidia’s Record Valuation Amid AI-Driven Market Shift

Apple Inc. is once again positioning itself as a dominant force in global equity markets, setting its sights on the $5 trillion valuation benchmark recently achieved by NVIDIA Corporation. The Cupertino-based giant has a well-documented history of reaching major capitalization milestones first, notably hitting the $1 trillion mark in August 2018, followed by $2 trillion in August 2020 and $3 trillion in January 2022.

However, the recent boom in artificial intelligence has shifted momentum toward the semiconductor sector. NVIDIA, fueled by soaring demand for data center infrastructure, became the first U.S. company to surpass $4 trillion in July 2025 and subsequently crossed the $5 trillion threshold in October 2025. Apple faced headwinds during this period, with tariff concerns and persistent inflation dampening investor sentiment for much of last year.

Despite these macroeconomic challenges, Apple has demonstrated resilience in 2026. The company’s core iPhone business has shown continued growth, helping its stock climb 20% year-to-date. This performance doubles the 10% rise seen in the S&P 500 over the same period.

Current market data reflects the close competition between the two technology leaders. NVIDIA currently maintains a valuation lead with a market cap of approximately $5.13 trillion, while Apple trails at roughly $4.63 trillion. NVIDIA’s shares are trading at $212.50, up slightly from the previous close. Meanwhile, Apple is seeing a stronger session with its stock priced at $327.50, representing a gain of 3.8%.

What to watch

  • Upcoming quarterly earnings reports from both Apple and NVIDIA.
  • Future guidance regarding iPhone sales and AI integration.
  • Data center revenue trends impacting semiconductor demand.
